Screening for genetic problems in pregnancy can take many forms. In recent years, research has shown that genetic material from the pregnancy is found floating in the pregnant mother’s blood, and can be isolated for testing (this is sometimes called ‘free fetal DNA’ or ‘cell free DNA’). There are a number of uses of this technology, which can be provided at CRGH:
- Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT)
- Non-Invasive Prenatal Diagnosis (NIPD)
