A dummy embryo transfer is a trial run for the embryo transfer procedure. This is necessary to establish whether the actual transfer is likely to encounter difficulties, such as deviations of the passage leading to the womb (uterus).
When the time comes for the actual embryo transfer the information gathered from the dummy procedure allows us to proceed with the least amount of trauma to the fragile embryos. Should we encounter resistance to the passage of the catheter we may recommend ways to dilate the cervix.
The use of dilapan/cervical dilatation facilitates the embryo transfer procedure and this helps to improve the pregnancy rate
