The Centre for Reproductive and Genetic Health offers a variety of effective fertility investigations for female and male patients to give you the best chance of starting or growing your family.
What Is a Fertility Investigation?
The aim of a fertility investigation is to understand if there are any factors that could be negatively impacting your chance of conceiving, whether naturally, through IVF, IUI or another fertility treatment. Conducting a fertility investigation will help our consultants create or adjust your personalised treatment plan to maximise your chance of growing your family.
Fertility investigations look different depending on your fertility history, genetic health and gender. Our consultants will advise on the most appropriate fertility investigation for you, and this may involve analysing hormone levels, ovarian reserve, semen and more.

Ovarian Reserve Test
Ovarian Reserve Tests (ORT) use an internal ultrasound scan to show the number of follicles on each ovary, along with a blood test to measure hormones, such as anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).

Endometrial Health Investigations
The endometrium is the internal lining of the womb, and your endometrial health is considered a key indicator of your reproductive health. There are four aspects of endometrial health that CRGH investigate as part of our Endometrial Quartet test: ERA, EMMA, ALICE and NKCT.

Semen Analysis
Often the first fertility investigation for men, a Semen Analysis will determine the health and quality of your sperm. This is a straightforward investigation that will indicate how effective your sperm will be in fertilising an egg.

A Semen Culture test is a common male fertility investigation that often takes place alongside a Semen Analysis. In our laboratory, a semen sample is “cultured” so we can identify if you are carrying an infection that could be impacting your fertility and, if so, how to treat this with antibiotics.

A Sperm DNA Fragmentation test is an advanced fertility investigation to analyse how fragmented (or damaged) the sperm is, as this can impact your ability to conceive. Many patients choose to undergo this investigation alongside a Semen Analysis and Semen Culture test.

Immunotherapy
Research has shown that an imbalance of Natural Killer Cells (naturally occurring immunological cells) can impact your fertility. For some patients, we may offer Natural Killer Cell Testing and, if recommended, Immunotherapy to suppress this immune response.

A 3D SIS will show a highly-detailed image of your uterine cavity, allowing your consultant to conduct a comprehensive analysis of any abnormalities, scar tissue, polyps or fibroids that could impact your fertility.

Dummy Embryo Transfer
This is a “trial run” so your consultant can assess how easily an embryo will be able to travel through the uterus to the womb. A Dummy Embryo Transfer ensures our team is aware of any challenges that may arise during the actual transfer, so we are best prepared.
