Oncology patients, Fertility preservation and storage
Over the last two decades we have a fast-track pathway for oncology patients who are about to undergo surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy, which may compromise their fertility and wish to freeze their eggs, or sperm, or embryos for fertility preservation. We aim for you to see our consultant within 24 hours of contacting us.
For women/couples, the egg or embryo freezing process takes approximately 12 to 14 days from the day of starting ovarian stimulation up to egg collection. We have adopted protocols to make sure that the stimulation process starts without delay, regardless of the day of your cycle, so that there is no unnecessary delay of your cancer treatment and to minimise significantly the risks of any potential side effects. It is critical for such a service to be available 7 days a week.
We are one of the few fertility centres in London with both consultants and operating theatre cover 7 days a week.
For men, the sperm can be frozen on the same day after an initial consultation and screening tests. We also provide services for alternative methods of sperm collection should a patient have difficulty producing sperm, including Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESAs). We can again accommodate these procedures at short notice in order to avoid any delay to your cancer treatment.
We will also offer fertility counselling to support you when embarking on fertility preservation treatment.
